The Grace of God Towards Israel

As chapter 34 came to a close, Jacob’s family was quite a mess. His sons responded to a violent attack on the family with more violence, making themselves judge, jury, and executioner over Shechem. Despite all this God was gracious to Jacob. He renamed him Israel (He struggles with God) in recognition of his determination and perseverance before his creator.
